More flexibility on start time (e.g. 5 minutes after the hour or half hour)

2y agoPending

I would love the ability to have the default start time be 5 minutes after the hour or :30 mark.

Many meetings from others run over, and instead of trying to fight that, I often like to schedule my meetings 5 minutes after the hour to make it easier for people to show up on time, take a quick break, etc.

  1. I don't know if this request applies to scheduling or meeting polls, but I definitely would like meeting polls to have more flexibility for start times. Right now you can only choose on the hour or half hour. But a 75-minute meeting may start at quarter past the hour. That's our normal pattern, and it's impossible to poll with Savvycal right now.

  2. I absolutely second this one - this is my favorite "hack" to not enter meetings stressed. I'm famous within my team for my "starting 5 minutes later meetings". In a remote world, where schedules are blocked often for hours without breaks people are just thankful to have a bit of a buffer to grab a drink, use the toilet and still be on time for their next meeting.

And like Jake said - ending meetings 5 minutes early just doesn't work, because there is always one more quick thing.

If you want to stick to the 15min increments for scheduling, that you currently use, a "Start 5 min later" checkbox would do the trick.

    1. Kai Blisch I agree with all your reasons here, thanks for elaborating!

Derrick Reimer - If I were designing this, am not sure how I would implement it from the receiving party's end (not the creator of the SavvyCal scheduling link). For example, would I want to show them 4:00-5:00 as an option for simplicity when scheduling and instead send out 4:05-5:00 in the actual invite? Or show 4:05-5:00 as the option?

Probably the latter, but regardless, the obvious restriction would need to be in place that they cannot schedule anything starting on the hour. - Mostly just thinking out loud here - thanks for the consideration!

    2. Jake Wysocki - 100% agree

    3. Kai Blisch: Super helpful! What do you (and Jake Wysocki) think about showing it on the hour, but having some copy on the booking page that indicates something like "we'll start 5 minutes later"? (And then the calendar invite has that 5 minutes-past start time)?

    4. Derrick Reimer That would definitely work - I would also guess that this is easier to implement, which is a big win too!

    5. Derrick Reimer I think that would be fine for everybody.

Only edge case is 10 or 15 min duration meetings, as 5 min are a big chunk out of the available meeting duration. But that’s just something to think about, when setting the duration(s) for a link.

  3. This makes a lot of sense! Would you want these meetings to be effectively shortened by 5 minutes (so 55 minutes instead of 1 hour) or end at 5 minutes past? (I'm assuming shortened, but double checking).

    1. Derrick Reimer - Yes, exactly! - 55 minute meeting instead of an hour, thanks for clarifying, I should have included that!)
